Institute Industry Initiative (III)

PSG College of Pharmacy established in the year 2001, is one of the several Institutions nurtured by PSG & Sons’ Charities engaged in nation building through education for the past 87 years. The college offers B.Pharm, M.Pharm, Pharm. D programs with an intake of over 150 students per year. The College is a DSIR recognised Centre for Ph.D programs and is actively involved in many research programs funded by DST, DBT, AICTE, DRDO and ICMR with a project funding around Rs. 2 crores.

We have been arranging placements for our students through the placement cell under the guidance of Dr. M. Ramanathan with Mr. S. Subramanian as co-ordinator. Our students are placed in marketing, production, QA & QC, packaging, regulations and R & D in pharmaceutical and industries. In order to further increase the percentage of student placements and also in diverse fields, the Principal suggested to strengthen the cell under Institute Industry Initiative program.

The feedback from reveals HR and technical personnel from Industry that the students need to focus on certain key areas to secure employment in industry. Further, the students also expressed their opinion that they would like to know the possible career opportunities for them.

The goal was set to prepare a list of Industry experts spreading across various disciplines, such as pharmaceutical, clinical trial organisations, Intellectual property management, data mining, medical coding, medical writing, medical transcription, clinical pharmacy, pharmacy practice, marketing and business development, biotechnology, nutraceuticals, food and beverage and others.

Dr. M. Ramanathan, Principal, suggested to conduct monthly interaction with industrial experts for the entire year wherein we have decided to invite 12 to 14 industry experts for interactive session with the students. The goal was set to bring awareness to the undergraduate, post-graduate and Pharm D students about the requirements to enter into that particular industry and also to know the expectation of the industry from the students.

It is proposed to conduct interactive session with students and industry experts on 3rd Saturday of every month so that regular classes of the students will not get affected.

Further it was proposed to arrange for a short training program or impart some additional knowledge on a particular topic to enable the students ready to face the job market with confidence.
