PSG College of Pharmacy has one NSS unit under The TN Dr MGR Medical University involving in various social activities. The unit has actively participated in the regular and special camp activities for several years.

2013 – 14 | NSS SPECIAL CAMP

PSG College of Pharmacy affiliated to Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Chennai organized the NSS Special camp at Nagarajapuram Elementary School, Vedapati Panchayat from 05.01.2014 to 11.01.2014. With contributions from Lions Club, Airport, Coimbatore ten benches (worth Rs. 25,000) were sponsored to the elementary school which had no benches until then. Vivekananda Youth Club, Paneermadai sponsored 50 plates and tumblers (worth Rs. 3800) to the noon meal centre at the school. Besides these the NSS volunteers donated 50 slates and chalk pieces to the students at the Balwadi, while dictionary and stationery items were given to 50 students in the school. As part of the camp, the school premises was cleaned, compound wall white washed and the main gate which was damaged in May 2013 was fixed (photo attached). Dr. Mahadevan, Govt. Medical College Hospital created awareness on AIDS, Mr. Rajkumar, Hand-in-Hand, an NGO working on Solid Waste Management System presented a power point on adverse use of plastics on environment. Dr. Selvaraj, Associate Professor, Dept. of Psychology, Govt. Arts College correlated Psychology with Personality Development. Awareness programmes like importance of education, road safety and various govt. schemes were screened with the help of Field Publicity Office, Coimbatore. Thannambikkai Masilamani instilled confidence among the volunteers by his speech on Confidence.

2014-15 | NSS SPECIAL CAMP

We have organized the NSS Special Camp at Nagarajapuram Elementary School, Vedapati Panchayat from 05.01.2015 to 10.01.2015. A donation of Rs. 30,000 was raised by the NSS Volunteers including the contributions from Network Clothing Company, Tirupur to serve the community. Dresses worth Rs. 5,000 were given to the students at Balwadi, 5 tables and 34 chairs worth Rs.20,000 were sponsored to the government elementary school, Nagarajapuram and stationary items were given to 50 students in the school. As part of the camp activity, the school premises were cleaned and compound wall was white washed.  Dr. Mahadevan created awareness on AIDS by delivering a lecture on “Awareness of STD, AIDS and its Preventive Measures”. Free medical checkup was conducted for the school students. Mr. Jaganathan from Rotatry Club, Coimbatore conducted an interactive session to highlight the importance of “Team Building”. Pongal Festival was celebrated in the school and different competitions were conducted to encourage the school students. Awareness programmes like importance of education, road safety and various govt. schemes were informed to the public by rally, distributing pamplets and screening with the help of Field Publicity Office, Coimbatore. Mr. Venugopal, Yoga Master, Nehru Matriculation School, Coimbatore conducted yoga classes for NSS Volunteers. Thannambikkai Masilamani instilled confidence among the volunteers by his speech on Confidence. Mr. KrishnaKumar from PSG Institute gave a talk regarding self-confidence and personality development. A medicinal garden was inaugurated in the Vedapati Health Centre by Dr. Thiyagarajan, Medical Offier, PSG Vediapati Health Centre. Dr. G. M. Mohammed, NSS Programme Officer, PSG IMS&R gave a special talk regarding the immunization.

NSS REGULAR ACTIVITES – 2014-15

June 5th 2013 – World Environmental Day World Environmental Day was observed by maintaining the medicinal garden and emphasizing the importance of preventing the nature.

15th August 2015:
Independence Day was celebrated in the campus by hoisting the national flag.

29th October 2014:
World Strokes Day was observed on 29th of October 2014. NSS volunteers of PSG College of Pharmacy participated in the awareness rally and created the awareness to prevent stoke by distributing pamphlets, shouting the slogans and displaying the banners & placards during the rally.

3rd November 2015:
An amount of Rs.7,515/- was contributed by the NSS Volunteers towards the flood victims of Jammu & Kashmir.

September 24th 2015:
NSS Day was observed. Orientation programme for NSS volunteers about NSS objective and symbol were discussed.

7th November 2014:
Science day was celebrated on 7th of November 2014. Elocution competition was held on 4th November 2014 on the topic ‘Nobel Laureates in Science’ and Drawing competition was held on 5th November 2014 on the topic ‘Green revolution’. Prizes and certificates were given for the I, II and III place for both the competitions.

 

SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION

26th January 2015
Republic day celebrations were held in the college campus.

27th February 2015
A short flim competition was organized by the NSS unit of PSG College of Pharmacy on the theme ‘Human Values’ to stress the importance of human values for the students of PSG College of Pharmacy. The entry was restricted to 10 teams. After preliminary screening 5 short films were selected and screened on 27th February 2015. I, II and III prizes were given for the winners.

9th – 15th March 2015 National Integration camp at Kanakagiri Siddha Kshethra, Malayur in Karnataka
National Integration camp was Organized by Govt. of Karnataka National Service Scheme Cell Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka and Government Ayurveda Medical College, Mysuru from 9th to 15th March 2015 at Kanakagiri Siddha Kshethra, Malayur in Karnataka. Ten NSS Volunteers of PSG College of Pharmacy have attended the camp and benefited. The main slogan of the camp was ‘healthy mind and body for a better nation’.

The National Integration Camp once again reminded the NSS Volunteers about keeping their body, soul and spirit in a healthy state. Yoga, awareness rally, medical camp, field visit to agricultural farms, interaction with the farmers, educating the villagers about cleanliness, talks on environment, cultural programmes, donation to the children at ashram all made the volunteers to think about their social responsibility to the nation. As per the motto of NSS, ‘No me but you’ the volunteers understood the greater responsibility of the younger generation and also their personality was developed by various activities of the camp.
