Department of Pharmaceutical Analysis

  • About the Department
  • Faculty Details
  • Consultancy Details

The Department was established in 2011 to provide a focus for Pharmaceutical Analysis at the college of Pharmacy. Pharmaceutical analysis is a core department which is responsible for imparting knowledge in the field of modern instrumental techniques for B.Pharm, Pharm. D and all branches of M.Pharm. It involves basic research in identity, purity, content and stability of starting materials, excipients and active pharmaceutical ingredients. Impurities usually stem from the synthesis of the active ingredients; they are usually monitored according to the ICH guidelines and the pharmacopoeia standards.

The department is actively involved in the method development of synthetic and natural drugs, pharmacokinetic studies, TDM studies, stability studies, elucidation of newly synthesized drugs using infrared spectroscopy, UV. The department of pharmaceutical analysis has the modern equipments with good infrastructure facilities.

A broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical analysis is disseminated to the students with an emphasis placed on both the academic and professional aspects of the subject and it prepares graduates, post graduates and Doctorates for entry into research programmes in the Pharmaceutical Analysis, DSIR Recognized research centre.

Vision:

To produce a competent Pharmaceutical Analyst to meet the demands of the Pharmaceutical Industries in terms of analysis, Quality control of materials (raw and finished), standards and compliance with regulatory bodies and to provide Quality Assurance to the Pharma Industry for the manufacture of either formulations or bulk drugs.

Objectives:

To develop ability to work in pharmaceutical industries on modern analytical methods, instruments, analytical method development, validation, analytical research and achieving global standards.

Number of papers published journals (national / international): 70

Activities of the department.

Journal club

  • PG students have been asked to select a scientific article in their own area of interest. Once the article has been selected then it will be distributed to all the other PG students (apart from the presenter) and faculty. The presenter has to explain the scientific article as if he has performed the study. He/she should also explain the merits and demerits of the study. All the other people will also give their inputs about the study. Monthly two PG students were used to present the article.

Science club

  • Science club is a platform for both B. Pharm and Pharm D students to showcase their talents in research. Students can present their innovative ideas or models or project works done by them by a presentation. The same will be evaluated by a panel of experts and prizes will be distributed for them. Science club also conducts quiz programmes for students. New interesting research findings are displayed by the science club in the notice board.

Contributions of the department in generating new knowledge, basic or applied.

  • It is an application oriented department we do Collobrative work with Pharmacy practice and pharmaceutics departments so that students can gain knowledge in different areas
  • The students have been asked to learn on newer development in their respective field other than curriculum. The new information, knowledge and technology all shared through scientific deliberations. In undergraduate level similar practice has been adopted in fourth year B. Pharm. the Science club serves as a platform for this activity.
